Fresno Fathers Day Frolic Ride '08
I hope that all the Fathers/ Graduates and everyone was treated to a great weekend. The ride started at my place with breakfast burritos as advertised (one mine). But things picked up. I hooked up with Nick Fusco in Santa Maria who decided to join me on this journey. As we headed up the coast we were greeted by cool and crisp weather with a mix of sun and a bit of overcast to our scheduled lunch stop at the Jack Ranch Cafe in Chalome site of the James Dean Memorial.
We dined on local game and homemade pie. Ron/ Dave did I mention HOMEMADE PIE? Our waitress Nena made sure that we left well fed and better informed about the movie star who perished just up the road there is a copy of the speeding ticket he received titled "The Last Autograph".
Ronnie
We continued our trip through the steaming golden brown Kettleman hills as the central valley layed ahead. As we left the golden brown hillsides we on headed into the green ag fields, the colors returned.
We arrived at my Moms to get rid of the road dust and prepare for dinner. After collecting Mom we headed to the Golden Dragon in downtown Selma. The owners are my Mom's neighbors. We met other relatives and enjoyed a great Chinese meal, yes the best pot stickers on the planet!! After a pleasant evening of conversation and visiting, Mom was returned and we settled in for a much needed rest.
Bright and early we packed up and headed to Mexican breakfast at La Castenita. From breakfast we traveled to Clovis to the home of my sister Janice and her Husband Tim. This would be the launching point for our mountain/lake Sunday morning ride (as advertised) Tim would serve as our road caption leading us up the foothill roads to the mountain pass leading to Shaver Lake it was cool and sunny the lake sparkled as boaters took advantage of the great day. After our visit to the Shaver Lake and the mountains above Fresno we headed down the mountain.
As we reached the foothills we parted company with Tim Hendricks our Road Caption and headed to the Armenian picnic site where we would meet up again with Tim and my sister. As we arrived at the picnic, the festivities were in full swing we were greeted by the smell of grilling Shish Kabob and other great foods, as we pulled into the motorcycle parking area. I had a great opportunity to see and relatives some that I don't see often enough, another reason why these events are so meaningful. After we had lunch, took in the Armenian music and dance, and visited the so many it was time to leave and head back to the coast.
What a great trip, it was nice to have a riding partner and Nick enjoyed the trip so much that he is planning to attend the rumble to the summit 6/20-21. I will be here in SB maybe there will be a Sunday ride? We had a great time and maybe next year when I make the journey others might join the party ride.
So I hope you enjoy the pics
